Why does it seem that the majority of booing and shouted insults take place at MMA events held within the US more-so than other countries like Japan?
I was sitting in my seat at the IFL semi-finals last night in Portland, OR, and was surrounded by constant, ignorant remarks which were intended for the majority of the fighters throughout the night. One guy even went as far as shouting that a certain fighter who was simply protecting himself, should "curl up in a ball and continue to suck his thumb". He then proceeded to tell him he might as well hurry up and just get on his knees.
Later on in the night, just seconds after the fight between Allan Goes and Daniel Gracie went underway, claims that Daniel was a "disgracie" to the family name were made all because both fighters were "dancing" and not throwing blows with KO power.
Another thing that irritated me was the ongoing, lame jokes such as saying two fighters should "stop making out" and throw some elbows. First off, throwing elbows in the IFL is illegal! Secondly, this certain fighter was simply trying to pass half-guard, and in fact, i can assure you all, there was NO making out taking place. Because, after all, if you're not working to shove the guy's nose-bone into his brain, you must be in love right?
Anyways, a little bit of heckling is to be expected at any public venue, televised or not. But my point is, dont put down the fighters for doing they're job, and definitely dont disregard the inhuman-like training and lifestyle changes these guys put themselves through each day.
