... watching the latest HL of Tyson's career has me wondering on the effect of weight divisions in fighting... pre 1970'ish (as an arbitrary year) there were a lot less extremely large athletes in boxing... perhaps it was more rare for a heavyweight to be fighting someone who outweighed them by 40 or 50 lbs...
... should there be more MMA weight divisions above 205 to take into account more and more very large fighters?... how can it be considered fair for the big guys to have such large weight differences when the lighter weight divisions don't?...

Thats a very good question... ... being a fighter yourself, how much weight can you give away before it matters... does it make a big strength difference I suppose?...

IMO, the heavier you get the less a weight difference matters. You look at a guy who weighs 220 vs. a guy who weighs 250, there's probably not going to be a huge strength difference. I think it does make a bigger difference between 155 and 185 though.
Again that's all just opinion.

I think it does make a bigger difference between 155 and 185 though. Again that's all just opinion. ... yeah, I suppose its less % body weight and once you're HW then guys are necessarily ripped up...

Yeah, I like how the UFC caps off the HW division at 265.

Yeah, I like how the UFC caps off the HW division at 265. ... no doubt with guys like Antonio Silva at 6'4" 300lbs... can you imagine him fighting someone who is 215?...
